Earth Day was created in 1970 to increase awareness and enforce environmental regulations. The UN climate report last month made it clear that we must take immediate action to reduce the harmful effects of greenhouse gas emissions. Perhaps the best thing is that change is possible if everyone plays their part.
This report outlined a plan for how to slow climate change. It starts with accelerating renewable energy use and cutting down on fossil fuels. These initiatives can be brought to life by a strong solar policy that makes solar energy more affordable to all Americans.
The U.S. Congress is currently examining a large budget package. It includes a long-term extension to the federal solar Investment Tax Credit. This credit can be used for storage and solar energy. Homeowners who choose to use solar power will see their upfront costs reduced by the solar tax credit. The ITC currently provides homeowners with a tax credit equal to 26% of the total price of their solar system 1. This credit will be reduced to 22% starting in 2023 and ending completely in 2024.
